We've created this site as an entry point into the discussion about Digital Rights Management (DRM) technologies, and the way they impact our lives. If you've ever listened to an MP3, chances are you know something about DRM already. If not, our What is DRM? page is a great place to start.
In short, DRM refers to the copy protection schemes packaged with various types of intellectual property.
The way most of us are familiar with interacting with DRM is the usage restrictions placed on the various types of digital media which we buy: MP3s, DVDs, software, and other types on intellectual property. While it remains clear that protecting the intellectual property rights of the authors of these materials is of great importance, the extent to which those protections should encumber the normal usage of the consumer remains a subject of great debate.
